The 20,000 euros EV will be a smart EV with a range of 250 km

  • Volkswagen showcased the ID. EVERY1 concept car for an electric 20,000 euro car that will enter into production in 2027 and will be sold in Europe.

  • The concept car is sporty, will have a maximum speed of 130 km/h, power output of 70 kW (95 PS), length of 3,880 mm, and a range of 250 kilometres.

  • Volkswagen said the electric vehicle will be a smart EV.

“The production version of the ID. EVERY1 will be the first model in the entire Group to use a fundamentally new, particularly powerful software architecture. This means the future entry-level Volkswagen can be equipped with new functions throughout its entire life cycle. Even after purchase of a new car, the small Volkswagen can still be individually adapted to customer needs,” Volkswagen said.

  • The model will compete with the unveiled Citroën’s ë-C3 city car which starts at 23,300 euros in Germany, has a range of 322km, power output of 83 kW (113 hp), and length of 3,981 mm.

  • It will also compete with the 2026 Renault Twingo E-Tech which will cost less than 20,000 euros and have electric range of 274 km.

Assessment
The ID. EVERY1 is competitive at its pricing range. The most interesting part is that it will be a smart EV. Given that Europe doesn’t have a lot of small compact cars costing less than 20,000 euros, it could very attractive. The smart features as well as the lower price range could also help Volkswagen withstand competition from Chinese EVs.

Volkswagen to reintroduce physical buttons in its upcoming vehicles, argues it was a mistake to eliminate them

  • Volkswagen design chief Andreas Mindt said the company will bring back physical buttons starting with the 2026 ID.2.

“From the ID 2all onwards, we will have physical buttons for the five most important functions – the volume, the heating on each side of the car, the fans and the hazard light – below the screen,” said Mindt. “They will be in every car that we make from now on."

  • Mindt said they will never make the same mistake again of not having physical buttons.

“We will never, ever make this mistake any more. On the steering wheel, we will have physical buttons. No guessing any more. There’s feedback, it’s real, and people love this. Honestly, it’s a car. It’s not a phone: it’s a car.”

  • The decision comes at a time when the EU New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) is set to introduce a new rule in 2026 that requires cars to have a certain number of physical buttons in order to achieve a 5-star safety rating.

Assessment
The lack of physical buttons in a number of Volkwagen models such as the Tiguan, Passat and Golf have been a major complain for Volkswagen customers. Reintroducing them will make the models more attractive, particularly the family vehicles.
