Hinge CEO said they will likely launch their own payment system at the end of the year
The possibility of Hinge launching its own payment system inside iOS is thanks to a major court ruling in April. In a case between Epic and Apple, judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that effective immediately, Apple will no longer be allowed to collect fees on purchases made outside the app and prevent developers from pointing users to where they can make payments outside of the app.

CEO Spencer Rascoff said Tinder is rolling out biographical content enhancement to make swipes more meaningful (min 59:26).
“Tinder is, in the process of changing its product so it is less about quickly assessing the attractiveness of a photo, and more letting the user assess the whole person. So for example, now we have biographical content on top of the photo. Now when you swipe right on the third or fourth photo it will tell the user what photo it was that you were interested in, so if I swipe right on your photo of you skiing, now in chat we are starting to have a conversation about you skiing, rather than me just swiping right on your photo.”
-
He said Double Date is one of the most successful products they have launched in years (min 59:14)
“And then most importantly, Tinder’s double date product is one of the most successful products they have launched in years. Double date is really finely tuned and has great market fit for the Gen Z user that wants a lighter weight way to connect, lower pressure, lower stakes. Think like, I prefer Instagram stories which are just there for 24 hours over Instagram feed where that will define me for the rest of my life. Now compare with the double date — with two friends getting together, chatting in a 4-way chat inside Tinder and then getting together, not even like a date, a group hang. We’ll find out whether we have good chemistry; doesn’t matter, I’ll still have a good time with my friend. That has product-market fit with Gen Z in a way that one-on-one dating was really high-stakes and high-pressure.”

Hinge will no longer ban users for problematic content
- Hinge said it will no longer ban users if there is a problematic content in their account but will instead remove the bad content and notify users.
- The account will remain in the app but will not appear in other people’s Discover or Standout feeds (where you can “like” and match) until the user update the profile.
- This comes after users complain that Hinge and other dating apps were banning their accounts and the appeal process could take long.

Face Check feature has led to a noticeable reduction in safety and trust issues in Tinder, Match Group’s Head of Trust and Safety said
-
Yoel Roth, Head of Trust and Safety at Match Group said Face Check feature has led to a noticeable reduction in safety and trust issues in Tinder.
“There’s a significant decrease in the number of reports we receive, and people encounter less harmful content and submit fewer complaints. When we survey users about their perceptions of how real and authentic the accounts are, there’s a noticeable improvement in their sense of safety and trust on Tinder,” Roth said when asked about how the feature has been received.
-
Face Check feature has been rolled out in Colombia, India, Canada, the United States (only California so far) and Australia.
-
Face Check feature doesn’t ask for image of your face, it also collects liveness data around your face.
“Instead of relying on users to simply upload a photo to their profile, which could be a deepfake, we collect liveness data using the front-facing camera on their device while they are using the app. That way, we can ensure that the image isn’t a deepfake or inauthentic, but that it’s a real person,” Roth explained when asked how the feature works.
