ECB cuts interest rates by 25 basis points as was expected

  • ECB cut its interest rates by 25 basis points as was widely expected by the market, taking the key interest rate to 2.25%.

  • According to Bloomberg, the ECB was pondering a pause in rate cut weeks ago but the U.S. tariffs made the ECB members to tilt towards a further rate cut.

    “The outlook for growth has deteriorated owing to rising trade tensions,” the ECB said in its statement.
