Austria’s Spusu takes aim at 1&1’s territory

  • Spusu, Austria’s family lead mobile operator that was founded in 2015, enters German market with agressive pricing.
  • Spusu’s “Legendär” package comes with 80 gigabytes of data for just €12.90 per month versus that of 1&1 which costs around €14.99.
  • While it relies on Vodafone’s 5G network in Germany as a Full MVNO, Spusu’s self-developed core network grants it significant cost advantages.
  • Another differentiating feature of Spusu versus 1&1 is its data rollover model, where unused monthly data can be carried over to subsequent months.
  • It has around 300 employees, generated €80 million in revenue in Austria and €125 million across the group in 2025, growing revenue organically by around €25 million every year (+25% y/y in 2025).
  • It has around 1.08 m customers; 700,000 (Austria), 160,000 (Great Britain), 150,000 (Italy), and 70,000 (Switzerland).

Assessment
Spusu’s €9.65 average revenue per user (ARPU) per month positions it firmly in the German discount MVNO segment, significantly below 1&1 (whose ARPU is around €17.00), Freenet, Vodafone, and Telefónica, making it a competitive pressure point in low-end pricing.
