Paypal

I think PayPal is nearing oversold conditions and might be interesting to look into.

Main concern: Competitors esp. Apple Pay esp. in the U.S which could offer even more convenience to users.

@Johannes do you have a position in PYPL? If yes, are you seeing growth vectors and do you fear the competition of Apple Pay and Co?

Johannes 06/16/2022 10:35 PM

Yes I have some shares. I see 10 % growth in revenue. I m not afraid of and the others. I think PayPal has a good market standing. I read an interesting article about a sub company of PayPal. I will posted it here , if I will find it

Sub company → Venmo .

I never looked closely into it but fear pressure on prices and margins. Any idea how aggressively all the and fintechs are attacking?

Johannes 06/16/2022 11:36 PM

@Moritz | InvestmentWiki.org hmm yes we saw the margins pressure Q1 but I didn’t look directly inside the report to recheck where the decline came from. The new interest rate situation may change the environment of PayPal.

Elliott is in !

I actually exited the position with a slight loss. My understanding is not strong enough and I see very strong competitors that will attack over the long run + the stock is not cheap. What its your Bullcase?

Are you still interested in PayPal?
I have been interested in it myself, maybe I can share relevant sources if I find them during my free time

Sure, sounds great. They could be interesting at those suppressed price levels.
That said i never analyzed it in detail.

There are a few things i disliked most importantly the market position which is under attack from Apple and Google Pay as those solutions are significantly more convenient. (I always like if there is a quick Apply Pay option vs. having to sign into Paypal)
This means their P/E could look cheap on the surface, but in case the business is collapsing, it is really not.

Additionally, i believe PayPal was only mediocrely managed, but now they have a new CEO, which i have no idea about.
Based on my personal experience, their customer support was horrible.
Also, Paypal’s business and reporting functions are not great, from what I heard, and the pace of innovation did not appear to be impressive so a lot of businesses are shifting to Stripe.
