I=2 Threads will launch podcast previews, with the aim of encouraging podcasters and their fans to spend more time on the app
“Could Threads be the canonical place where you’re talking about and engaging with other fans about what’s going on in a podcast?” Connor Hayes, head of Threads asked during a recent interview with Bloomberg. “ You should be able to depend on Threads to be the place where conversation is happening about that.”
I=5 Threads beats X on daily active users on iOS and Android, Similarweb data shows
According to Similarweb, Threads had 141.5 million daily active users on iOS and Android as of January 7, 2026, while X had 125 million daily active users.
Meta Platforms said in October 2025 that Threads had had 150 million daily active users.
X is still ahead in web audience though, with 145.4 million daily web visits as of January 13), compared with 8.5 million for Threads.
Important to reiterate the good context here that you added to your last post on that matter.
Users on X are significantly more active and X still leads significantly on MAUs.
Meta Platforms said they will begin launching ads in Threads globally.
It pointed out that the launch of ads will be gradual.
“Ads on Threads expansion to all users will be gradual, with ad delivery initially remaining low as we reach global user availability in the coming months.”
Threads has over 400 million monthly active users but time spent on the app is still low (8 minutes per day as per Sensor Tower).
Assessment
I still don’t expect Threads to be a meaningful driver of Meta’s overall revenue in the next one or two years given time spent on the app is still low.
I=4 Threads debuts “Dear Algo” AI feature for personalizing content-recommendation algorithms
Threads users will be able to tell Dear Algo tool what kind of posts they want to see.
Dear Algo works through public posts, hence others can see it and even repost your request to apply it to their own feed.
The feature is differentiated from what its competitors such as X and Bluesky offer- a simple way to indicate their preferences with a “Not Interested” button.
I=5 Threads reaches 500 million monthly active users, adds new features
Threads has reached 500 million monthly active users, up from 400 million monthly actives as at August 2025.
To celebrate the milestone, Meta is taking Communities out of beta and adding new features such as Communities Hub in the main menu, custom icons for visual identification, and progress indicators showing when a topic is close to becoming an official community.
Meta is also launching Your Algo, a personal setting that lets you control what you see in your feed and builds on the Dear Algo launched early this year.
