Description of the tool and it’s goals. To be added.
Wiki article. To be added.
I am always very keen to improve our toolset. So if you find any tool that fits your needs well, feel free to propose that we start using it.
Ideally, it would be possible to link work done in this tool in the Wiki side by side with the respective articles, so that we could maintain our ethos of 100% transparency, open source and replicability/auditability.
In the end, what always wins are feasible insights though. So if there is indeed a tool that can detect correlations between possibly thousands of time series and preferably can be fed automatically I would be very interested in it as google sheets will have its limits.
There are already tools like this like Tableau and Power BI (there are several others), in college I used Stata for modeling too, however, I am not sure which is better for economic and market data currently, and other functionalities or pricing. I will have to research, but I do know we can do powerful analysis with a tool like this, that we cant do right now, or rely on others.
Btw, I do love to play with data and draw conclusions and analysis, is probably what I enjoy most even that web research, but I feel we lack the tool for this currently that’s why I don’t usually do it.
I like the extensive format how @bdavid structured his tool research e.g. on his mindmap research.
Tool decisions are quite important as they are long-term investment decisions.
The time that is used to research tools dwarfs compared to the time using and learning about them and therefore we want to take the correct decision and not realize that we bet on the wrong solution halfway through.
Therefore I think clear criteria like the difficulty of the learning curve, the size of a community that is using the tool and can support you, the ease of working with the tool, the exact functionality of the tool, etc. are quite important.
Probably it is best if you create a low-priority issue in linear for that topic and start defining criteria, researching, and experimenting a bit once you have time? We could then discuss what you found in September.
As you are the most experienced and only user in the beginning i think it would be quite important that you create some Loom documentation videos that could help me and others to learn how to use the tool.
Yes, sure, I can allocate some time to that.
I am not the best at documenting but I understand the importance.
I would also not want to make a decision by myself, so we would probably need to discuss it before I decide to test something.
