Europe’s Anti-coercion Instrument, popularly known as “bazooka” or “nuclear” option, is meant to deter economic coercion against any of the EU’s 27 member states. It was established in 2023 and has never been used before.
Following President Trump’s threats to occupy Greenland and his announcement that he will increase tariffs on seven major European countries to 25% from 15%, there has been some demands for the region to use ACI against the USA.
ACI is expected to target services exports from USA to Europe, making tech companies one of its victims.
