Bumble’s chief product officer Michael Affronti departs, Vivek Sagi to hold the new title of chief product and technology officer

  • Bumble’s chief product officer Michael Affronti has left the company, Business Insider reported citing an internal memo.

“I want to share that, after thoughtful discussion, Michael and I have mutually agreed that the best path forward for the company is to centralize Product, Engineering, and Design under one leader. As a result, Michael will be departing Bumble today,” CEO Wolfe Herd said in a December internal memo. " Vivek will step in to lead Product alongside Engineering and Design."

“Bringing these functions under one leader will provide clarity, tighter alignment, and a singular focus on what matters most: moving faster and delivering against our roadmap with more value to our members.”

“Many of our cross-functional teams already know Vivek well - he has been deeply involved in our strategic and technical direction.”

  • Vivek Sagi joined Bumble in May 2025 as its CTO and was previously the CTO of event planning site, Eventbrite from August 2020 to May 2025.

  • Affronti and the current Chief People Officer were the only executives appointed during former CEO Lidiane Jones’s tenure who continued with the company.

Assessment
In my opinion, this may signal execution is not going well at the product division. But it could also be normal restructuring associated with a new CEO.

I am confident (confidence level:75%) in Vivek Sagi’s ability though and often felt that he was more experienced than the outgoing chief product officer. For instance, I like that he has been hiring executives from his former employer Evenbrite e.g. the current VP of operations Sarah Miller and Chris Brown, a senior director of engineering. He also seems quite experienced in hiring and scaling engineering teams.
